In attempts to explore various animation techniques I found this intriguing use of stop-action & drawing animation.

The video employs stop-action methods — by taking pictures — of the hand drawn animation on a whiteboard. I am specifically drawn to how they use ‘outside’ elements (as in beyond the drawn animation) and integrate them into the story. Moreover, they explore the boundaries between different dimensions (3D live-action and 2D drawn animation) by having elements, such the hand, interact with the animation drawing.

I especially enjoyed the incorporation of natural light and shadows on the whiteboard as a means to illustrate a time of day or environment (however this was most likely unintentional). This sheds light on the various dimensions and boundaries one can explore using stop-action. I would like to experiment with various dimensions (such as different light sources, various objects, etc) to interact with stop-action animation. I was fond of the unpredictable usage of animation techniques.
