A beautifully clay-painted animation of various well-known paintings.

Joan Gratz, after 10 years, completes a claymation by re-painting paintings on a flat surface. The beauty of the piece is in it’s intricate transitions; it consists of very fluid movement and combinations. Secondly, the colour are precise and vibrant, barely resembling the clay texture.

Our group, by Franci Duran’s suggestion and encouragement, decided to implement this method of claymation instead of 3D field of animation. Camera movements will thus change as well as depth of field options. We hope to test this method in order to fully grasp what is needed and how we can work through it.

This interview with Joan Gratz aids in understanding her method, shedding light on the work of claymation.
